It’s January 14th, one month before Valentine’s Day. Have you made plans? Are you going to?

As we explained two years ago around this time, Valentine’s Day has developed a negative (and controversial) reputation as a “Hallmark holiday” for its sentimentalism and commercialization. It is an especially sensitive topic in the field of relationship psychology. Despite its reputation, we at The Gottman Institute feel that it’s a great day to do something special with your partner, if you do it the right way.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day the “right” way can be stressful for couples. It’s not about purchasing extravagant bouquets of roses, diamond rings, or expensive steak dinners. It should be a time to celebrate love with your partner. We’ve said it before, and we will certainly say it again: the best gift you can give your partner is a happy, healthy, and fulfilling relationship.

So, how do you do that? High expectations can be a source of conflict, so if you wish to celebrate, do it in a way that is comfortable for both you and your partner. If you do decide to recognize Valentine’s Day, we are here to support you. We’ve teamed up with the wonderful folks at Unbox Love to bring you a special Gottman Valentine’s Day Date-In-A-Box.

The “Chocolate Making” themed box, which costs $39, contains all of the materials that you will need to have a romantic date night from the comfort of your own home. We have carefully handpicked the contents, which will remain a surprise to preserve the excitement of the experience.

The box presents a perfect opportunity to establish a Valentine’s Day ritual of connection in your relationship. By returning to the same activity year after year, you will form a lasting tradition that you look forward to. This tradition will also give you the opportunity to look back on your relationship and reminisce about years past, reminding you of how strong your bond has become.

**UPDATE: The deadline to order has been extended to February 3rd. The order form is below. You can also access the webform here.
