Darren Wilk has an MA, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC, and a Certified Gottman Therapist and Workshop Presenter. After graduating from Trinity Western University Masters of Counselling/Psychology program in 2000, his associate, Lawrence Stoyanowski and Darren started a dream practice called Bestmarriages.ca, focused entirely on helping couples. This eventually lead them to the Gottman Method of working with couples in 2003, and it quickly became apparent that this was going to be a perfect match for the passion they had to help couples put the fun and intimacy back in their relationships. The couples he works with love this method because it makes sense and eventually empowers them with skills they can remember and use. It did not take long to realize that the Gottman method was transforming his work with couples, and that other counsellors needed to hear about this in Canada. Simply put, the Gottman approach is fun to teach because it compliments any therapeutic modality and provides a logical framework in which to work with couples.
Since 1988 he has presented hundreds of talks to youth and parents as a youth worker, and later to recovering addicts as an addictions counsellor. After being Gottman certified in 2006, he has enjoyed presenting over 30 times in different Gottman trainings and workshops which include: The Art and Science of Love Gottman Workshops, teaching Level One and Two Gottman Method to other clinicians, delivering presentations at the Annual Gottman Conference, and ASL trainings. He also provides ongoing consultation for therapists working on certification. In 2012 he will be the first to present the level 3 in Canada. “My goal is to help others feel very confident in using the method and eventually promoting it to their world. Others have said they love the way I present because of my use of humour, theoretical knowledge, personal experiences, and passion. “My wife and I have been married since 1988 and I have 2 perfect daughters and have fostered children for 16 years, which has taught me to be sensitive to any drama that might come our way. Cheers!”
